Since 1991 when Scotty Cameron began hand-making putters in his garage he has been a leader in his field. He had his first major championship victory in 1993 at the Masters and joined Titleist in 1995. With a start like that it was not long before he became the preeminent putter maker on Tour. In 1996 he won the first PGA Tour putter count for Titleist in more than two decades and has not looked back. Scotty Cameron putters have become among the most sought after putters in golf and are known around the world by top players for their design, performance, and unparalleled craftsmanship. The Authentication Department has been established to protect the buyer and maintain the integrity of this brand that Scotty has worked so hard to develop. The authentication service provides the facts about a putter; so whether you are a buyer or seller you will have the necessary information about the putter in question. Authentication determines if a putter is authentic, has been modified or is counterfeit. This service does not make grade distinctions; it is unbiased and based completely on the facts of the putter received.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at (760) 591-9720 (8am-5pm PST)

Authenticated putters fall into one of five different designation categories; the following is a look at these categories in more detail.

Certificate A - 100% Authentic
A putter given this top designation retains the integrity and characteristics of its original design. The following criteria have not been changed in any way:

  • Shape
  • Stamping
  • Finish
  • Paint fill
  • Shaft
  • Grip
  • Weight

The 100% Authentic putter will receive a Certificate of Authenticity with a Red border, which will list these authentic designations. It will be embossed with a raised seal, and include a hologram and a registry number beginning with the letter A. The registry number can be used to access our website database for further reference.

Certificate B - Slight Alteration
A putter is considered slightly altered if an original Scotty Cameron putter has had any of the following criteria changed:

  • Paint fill
  • Shaft
  • Grip

The slightly altered putter will receive a Certificate of Authenticity with a Yellow border and notations made regarding any of the above alterations. The putter specs will be entered into a database, photographed noting one or more of the alterations, and be embossed with a raised seal. It will also include a hologram, attesting to the document authenticity, and a registry number beginning with the letter B. The registry number can be used to access our website database for further reference.

Certificate C - Significant Modification
A putter is considered significantly modified if an original Scotty Cameron putter has had any of the following criteria changed, none of which infringe on Titleist/Scotty Cameron trademarks and/or intellectual property:

  • Shape
  • Finish
  • Stamping
  • Weight

The significantly modified putter will receive a Certificate of Authenticity with a Blue border with notations regarding any and all changes to the putter. It will be entered into a database and photographed noting one or more of the modifications. The Certificate will also be embossed with a raised seal and include a hologram and registry number beginning with the letter C. The registry number can be used to access our website database for further reference.

Trademark/Intellectual Property modifications
A putter is considered to have trademark and/or intellectual property modifications if an original Scotty Cameron putter has infringing stampings such as the crown logo, circle T stamp, Titleist logo, etc., made outside the Studio. A putter with infringing stampings submitted for authentication will NOT receive a Certificate of Authenticity, but rather a letter with a Green border stating that the putter has modifications that infringe on Scotty Cameron/Titleist trademarks and/or intellectual property. We encourage anyone that has mistakenly purchased an infringing putter to pursue the seller for restitution and pass along the source to us so that we may cross reference other claims and stop individuals with a history of defrauding buyers.

Counterfeit
A counterfeit putter was NOT made by nor has any affiliation with the Titleist/Scotty Cameron Putter Studio. It will NOT receive a Certificate of Authenticity, but rather a letter with a Grey border stating that the putter submitted was found to be a forgery. Again, if you have mistakenly purchased a counterfeit putter we encourage you to pursue the seller for restitution. Please visit our page regarding Counterfeit Putters and provide us with information about trademark infringement as well as counterfeit putters.
